Natasha Rothwell joins the cast of Wonder Woman 1984 in an undisclosed role – Deadline

Joker

Robert De Niro in talks for a role in the Joker movie – The Hollywood Reporter

  • “If a deal makes, De Niro would play a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Joker’s origin.”
  • Variety – “Insiders say the script has ties to De Niro’s recent comedy “King of Comedy,” about a failing comedian who kidnaps a popular talk-show host to gain fame. In this case, the roles would be reversed, with De Niro playing the smug host.”

Zazie Beetz in talks to star in Joker movie – The Hollywood Reporter

  • “Beetz would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the “clown prince of crime.””
  • Has starred in Atlanta and Deadpool 2

Frances Conroy in talks to play the Joker’s mom, “Penny” – The Wrap

  • Known for Six Feet Under, American Horror Story, Himym
  • Was in Catwoman (2004), voiced Martha Kent in All-Star Superman and Superman: Unbound

Shazam!

Details on Mark Strong’s Doctor Sivana – Entertainment Weekly

  • Sivana ran into The Wizard Shazam as a child, but was not granted powers
  • Director David F. Sandberg – “Mark Strong loves being a bad guy. And it’s not just him, really, it’s … something else … that lent him his powers … he can do some things that Shazam can’t. The danger in some films is the bad guy has the same powers as the good guy. [Sivana] has an extra thing, extra dynamic, that takes care of that….”

  • Scored director Sandberg’s previous 2 films (Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation)

DC Entertainment announces 2019 animated movie slate

  • Reign of the Supermen – early 2019 (previously announced sequel to The Death of Superman)
  • Justice League vs. The Fatal Five – spring 2019; original story featuring Legion of Super-Heroes villains
  • Batman: Hush – summer 2019
  • Wonder Woman: Bloodlines – no details given, rare 4th film

TV

Live-action Stargirl drama ordered to series by DC Universe- (The Hollywood Reporter)

  • 13 episode season to debut in 2019
  • Geoff Johns will write and executive produce; Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter will also EP
  • Synopsis – “Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore, who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The show reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series.”
  • Stargirl is based off of Johns’ late sister Courtney
  • Character has appeared in Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow

Titans news

  • Johns confirms Donna Troy and Jason Todd for the show; says it will explore many DC characters
  • Also teased Robin switching to Nightwing and possible Superboy/Lex Luthor storyline

Supergirl

New cast additions – The Hollywood Reporter

  • Nicole Maines will play Nia Nal/Dreamer, first transgender superhero on TV; based on Nura Nal/Dream Girl, a member of the legion of superheroes
  • April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley
  • David Ajala as antihero Manchester Black

Sam Witwer has been cast as Benjamin Lockwood/Agent Liberty in Supergirl Season 4

  • Will be a series regular role
  • Entertainment Weekly – “In the show’s interpretation on the character, Agent Liberty is the ruthless and terrifying founder and figurehead of Children of Liberty, a hate group that supports a human-first world order. According to a description from the show’s producers, he’s “a brilliant orator in the guise of a family man” and the scariest thing about him is how easily he can convince people that he’s right.”
  • Creator Dan Jurgens on Twitter – “Agent Liberty was not, and is not, a whack job. But, as a TV writer, if that’s all you’ve got, well… congratulations on your discovery of one dimensional writing.”

Legends of Tomorrow news

  • Season 4 teaser on YouTube
  • Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Vixen) remains a series regular; will be playing Charlie, a “magical fugitive”
  • Wally West won’t appear at all this season
  • TV LineLegends won’t be in crossover because either (a) It’s a “different type of show”, (b) it’s a challenging production, or (c) it’s tough to do character work with so many characters

  • Oliver in prison
  • Looks similar to Green Arrow: Supermax movie script
  • (Deadline) – The Longbow Hunters cast – Holly Elissa will play Red Dart, Michael Jonsson will play Kodiak and Miranda Edwards will play Silencer
  • The Silencer just debuted in DC Comics last year in self-titled book as part of “The New Age of Heroes”

  • (Deadline) – Chris Klein (American Pie) will play villain Cicada, “a grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans, Cicada now seeks to exterminate the epidemic — one metahuman at a time.”
