Robert Pattinson discusses The Batman in interview with Variety
- Pattinson was “furious” when it was reported he was cast as Batman before his audition; thought it ruined his chance
- As a kid, he was a big Batman fan and it “was the only outfit” he had
- He said the response to his casting was “less vitriolic” than he expected
- Wanted to meet with Matt Reeves as soon as he heard he was directing – “I’d had Batman in my mind for a while…It’s such an absurd thing to say. I sort of had an idea to do it, and I’d been prodding Matt. He didn’t accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.”
- Reeves agreed to meet only after he finished the script – “And then I had to kind of try to imagine what he’d written, and I hadn’t even read the script. I’d come with this pad full of notes.”
- Said it’s “pretty humiliating” having several people put you in a costume, but the Batsuit is “transformative” once its on
- Officially got the role the same day he started filming Christopher Nolan’s next film, so he asked a bunch of questions, including how to move in the suit
