Production has finally started on The CW’s Superman & Lois, 7 months after it was originally scheduled. We discuss this plus the castings of Chrissy Beppo and Leslie Larr in recurring roles and other production notes.
Filming has officially started on Superman & Lois
- Was initially planned for March 23
- Started October 21, as announced by Bitsie Tulloch on Twitter
- Had been slated to start week prior, but Vancouver productions had been delayed due to a backup of tests (Deadline)
- Prior to filming, there was days of screen tests and promo shoots
Sofia Hasmik has been cast as Chrissy Beppo, a journalist for the Smallville Gazette, in Superman & Lois – Entertainment Weekly
- Hasmik has previously appeared in Mad About You, Hello My Name is Doris, and All the Bright Places
- Beppo “has a knack for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time,” according to the official character description. “A go-getter with dreams of bigger and better things, a chance encounter with her idol changes her life trajectory. “
- Beppo name is probably a nod to “The Super-Monkey from Krypton”-
- “Christopher James Beppo” was a fictional writer’s name on the smallvilleledger.com during early seasons of Smallville (Image)
- Hasmik on Instagram – “I’m still pinching myself ? So happy to be a part of this incredible group of people and so excited for you all to meet Chrissy!!”
Stacey Farber (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has been cast in the recurring role of Leslie Larr – Kryptonsite
- There is no Leslie Larr in comics
- Described as “athletic, strong… and often times heartless” and also “the right hand to one of the most influential people on the planet, she’s gone from a young, idealistic dreamer to a hardened, world-worn dream killer.”
- There is a Lesla-Lar who made a few appearances starting with Action Comics #279 (1961) as a Supergirl villain
James Bamford has announced he will be directing Episode 4 of Superman & Lois on his website
- Long-time stuntman and stunt coordinator
- Directed 17 episodes of Arrow (including several crossovers, premieres, and finales) and 1 each of Batwoman and Supergirl
- Lee Toland Krieger is directing episode 1, episodes 2 and 3 currently unknown
Gregory Smith will a Supervising Producer/Director for Superman & Lois – Bitsie Tulloch on Twitter
- Has significant directing experience, including Legends of Tomorrow’s Invasion!, Crisis on Earth-X, and Crisis on Infinite Earths episodes
More details on the permanent sets being built for the town of Smallville – (Vancouver is Awesome, Wrangler Network, The Globe and Mail)
- Surrey city council has officially granted a three-year use of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds for the set (can be extended)
- $1.5 million project that covers around 300 acres
- Will have many storefronts and town spaces
- Also has “hardware store, bank, cinema, gas station and hotel” and a large green screen for special effects
- Includes a Post Office, Train Station, and The Smallville Gazette office that have room to film indoors
- will provide 200 local jobs for electrical, set dressing, etc.
